Ozlem Akcay, Principal Interior Designer, Senior Associate

Ozlem Akcay brings a wealth of creative and project management expertise to hospitality, restaurant, retail, and residential interior design projects. Having joined Gabellini Sheppard Associates in 2008, she has since served as lead designer of the guestrooms and public spaces of the Knickerbocker Hotel in Times Square, a historic New York City Landmark, as well as the guestrooms for the Istanbul Edition hotel. She also contributed to the award-winning flagship space of luxury jeweler David Yurman on New York’s Madison Avenue; the redevelopment of the historic Rainbow Room restaurant and event space at Rockefeller Center; two condominium projects in Manhattan; a seven-story townhouse on the Upper East Side; the firm’s Fibonacci furniture collection for Janus et Cie; new boutique and lifestyle concepts for Vera Wang collections in New York and Los Angeles; and most recently, FF&E renovation for the Four Seasons Resort in Anguilla.

Prior to joining Gabellini Sheppard Associates, Akcay was a senior designer at the New York-based firm Yabu Pushelberg, where she worked on restaurants and hotels in the U.S. and abroad. She studied art history at the University of Vienna and earned a BFA in Interior Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology, receiving the Legacy Fund Award from the American Society of Interior Designers.
Bobby Young, AIA, Senior Associate
Bobby Young portrait
Architect Bobby Young’s close attention to detail enables him to manage projects effectively from concept and design development to construction administration, providing leadership and quality control. Since joining the firm in 2007 and being promoted to Associate in 2013, he has led the development of numerous high-end residential, retail, residential, and mixed-use projects. Young has served as project manager for the Echelon Resort & Casino Grand Lobby in Las Vegas; a sales center for the UN Plaza Tower; and a private luxury residence in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Young also managed the firm’s full renovation and façade preservation of a seven-story townhouse residence in Manhattan, as well as the retail space and lobby renovation of 195 Broadway, a prominent historic building in Lower Manhattan. 
Prior to joining Gabellini Sheppard Associates, Young worked at New York-based Janson Goldstein LLP and 1100 Architect PC, where he contributed to high-profile commercial and institutional projects. His work has been featured in Interior Design magazine as well as exhibited at New York’s Downtown Design Show and the Chicago Design Show. Young graduated from Pratt Institute and is a registered architect in the State of New York.

Colin Martin, AIA, Senior Associate
Colin Martin portrait
Architect and interior designer Colin Martin brings leadership to numerous residential, retail, and hospitality projects. Since joining Gabellini Sheppard Associates in 2004 and being promoted to Associate in 2014, Martin has brought to fruition the interiors of two luxury condominiums in collaboration with Tadao Ando Architect & Associates and Álvaro Siza; hospitality projects such as The Edition hotel in Istanbul and The Row NYC Hotel; retail environments for The Village at Westfield London and Echelon High Street; and the adaptive reuse of historic buildings such as the Saks Fifth Avenue department store in Boston and the Top of the Rock observation deck at New York’s Rockefeller Center. 
Prior to joining Gabellini Sheppard Associates, Martin worked as a designer with Robert A.M. Stern Architects, where he developed the master plan and residences for Tuhaye Park, a golf resort in Park City, Utah. He also worked with Murphy Burnham & Buttrick Architects on several residential and institutional projects. Martin earned his Master of Architecture from Tulane University and is a licensed architect in the state of New York.

Silvia Maffei, Senior Interior Architectural Designer, Senior Associate

Architectural and interior designer Silvia Maffei harnesses strong conceptual thinking in the designing and spatial branding of luxury retail and residential spaces. Since joining the firm in 2010 and being promoted to Associate in 2016, Maffei has developed projects for J Brand, La Perla, Brioni, and Elena Mirò flagship boutiques in Italy and Moscow. Maffei served as the lead designer for the Beijing flagship store of the Chinese luxury cashmere label 1436, as well as designed the retail portion of the NBC Universal Lobby & Guest Experience at Rockefeller Center. Additionally, Maffei has managed construction administration, serving as project designer for the lobby and public spaces of the Álvaro Siza-designed condominium in New York and a mixed-use development in collaboration with Bjarke Ingels Group.
Prior to joining Gabellini Sheppard Associates, Maffei worked in store design for Michael Kors and as a project architect for M Architetti. She also co-founded and designed a line of eyeglasses frames in Italy. Maffei earned her Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Florence, Masters in Interior Design from Parsons School of Design, and a Ph.D in Civil Engineering from the University of Pisa. She is a licensed architect in Italy.
Courtney Adams, Interior Designer, Associate
Courtney Adams leads the sourcing of all materials, furnishings, and fixtures for some of the firm’s largest hospitality projects including the Knickerbocker Hotel, Rainbow Room, and the Four Seasons Resort in Anguilla. Since joining the firm in 2012, she has also worked on a number of recently completed luxury condominium projects such as 50 UN Plaza, 49 Chambers Condominiums, Manhattan View at MiMA, as well as the NBC Universal lobby and retail spaces.

Prior to joining the firm, Adams, originally from London, started her career in the UK working for Blacksheep, a firm specializing in hospitality design, as well as Godrich Design Collective and i-am Associates. Adams earned her Bachelor’s in Interior Design with honors from Kingston University, London and received her Art and Design Diploma in Foundation Studies from the Wimbledon School of Art.

Tomoko Hirose, ASID, Interior Designer, Associate
Tomoko Hirose oversees the sourcing of all materials, furnishings, and fixtures for high-end residential, luxury retail, and hospitality projects. Her experience with the firm since 2008 includes a wide range of developments including The Istanbul Edition hotel in Turkey, The Knickerbocker Hotel in New York City, and recently, the AC / Autograph Hotels Bordeaux development in California’s Silicon Valley. 

Prior to joining Gabellini Sheppard, Hirose developed a wide range of hospitality projects for Gensler such as the Hyatt in Arlington, Virginia and FF&E for Sheraton hotels in Kansas City and New York’s Times Square. Tomoko received her professional designation in interior design from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a degree in English Literature from Notre Dame Seishin University in Hiroshima, Japan. She is a member of the American Society of Interior Designers.

Steve Soleo, AIA, LEED AP, Associate
Steve Soleo is an accomplished Architect whose collaborative approach to design and construction enables him to build strong working relationships.  He has extensive experience leading teams on meticulously detailed projects at multiple scales, and has worked on ground-up construction and major renovations, while ushering projects through the NYC DOB and Landmarks Preservation Commission.   Since joining  the firm in 2019, Soleo has worked with Tishman Speyer on a Master Plan re-envisioning of Rockefeller Center.
Prior to joining Gabellini Sheppard Associates, Soleo held significant responsibilities as a Project Manager with Abelow Sherman Architects and Beyer Blinder Belle Architects & Planners.  He is a graduate of the University at Buffalo School of Architecture and Planning, where he won their Senior Design Award. Soleo is a registered Architect in New York State and a LEED Accredited Profession with the USGBC.
Chardonnay Pickard-Fares, Business Development & Marketing Director
A graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, Chardonnay Pickard- Fares followed her interest into the business and strategy side of the design industry. Following her start in New York in 2007, she’s worked as a consultant and in-house with a variety of the industry’s leading architects and interior designers, advising on licensing partnerships, media management and business development. 

She’s also worked closely with institutions like 92Y to produce innovative events and programming. Cultivating relationships and collaborations from introduction to final product is what motivates her as both a professional and as a creative at heart. 
Stephanie Musselwhite, Director of Business / Controller
Business Director & Controller, Stephanie Musselwhite, brings financial stewardship, project management and leadership skills gained through her 10+ years’ experience working within the architecture and design industry and 7+ years in the banking industry. Stephanie is passionate that good design equates with good business. She is flexible and adaptable to the dynamic requirements of the design process and changing objectives of a project or a client. 
Prior to joining Gabellini Sheppard, Stephanie began her architecture and design career with OPX Global, a boutique firm in Washington, DC where she was the Finance Manager. Stephanie then moved on to work for two of the largest architecture engineering consulting firms in the world, AECOM and Gensler. While working for these firms, Stephanie financially managed projects ranging in fees upwards of $30M. Her financial project management experience spans multiple practice areas including but not limited to: Hospitality, Residential, Mixed-Used Developments, Corporate Offices/Campus, Mission Critical, Federal/State Government, Aviation/Transportation and Branding. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Hospitality Management from the University of Mississippi (OleMiss) in Oxford, MS.
